Columbian designer Haider Ackermann is fast becoming one of my favourite designers. He launched his namesake line in 2001 and is one of the notable alumni of the Antwerp Fashion Academy of Fine Arts (Dries Van Noten and Ann Demeulemeester being the others). His work with leather was what initially drew my eye a number of years ago; he creates architectural shapes and cropped jackets are his signature. His collection for SS 2011 was softer than in previous years and he has used silk to great effect. The collection is very feminine, using blush pinks and vivid reds, and evokes a sense of dishabilee or undressing, with silk robes open to reveal thin straps falling off model’s shoulders. Leather was still evident but worked into softer shapes. Suffice to say every single piece in the collection was stunning beyond belief.
