Gareth Pugh’s collection for SS 2011 was very different to most shows at Fashion Week in that it took the form of an eleven minute video starring Kristen McMenamy, 90s iconic eyebrow-less supermodel. The film, directed by Ruth Hogben, was accompanied by lookbook images showcasing the clothes. Pugh explained: “I really want to present my clothes to a wider audience and in a more freeing and interesting context than a standard fashion show.”
The film is available to view on ShowStudio and ShowStudio are also offering a unique preview of Pugh’s S/S 2011 collection for immediate purchase – a silk-chiffon scarf featuring a key monochrome graphic print from the collection. A limited edition run of just 100 pieces are available to purchase through the SHOWstudio.com Shop, a full six months before Pugh’s collection will appear in shops worldwide.
I am a huge fan of Pugh and this season just adds to my admiration. Pugh’s colour palette for SS 2011 was traditionally minimal, using white, black, grey and silver. Leather, neoprene, nylon and aluminium were the main materials used and the clothes had a typically futuristic feel but with a slightly softer edge. I would have worn every single piece in his collection.
