Spring is upon us (apparently…it was snowing in Dublin last week so I’m still sceptical) and thoughts are turning to summer holidays. Myself and my best friend, Jeanne, are doing some research and scheming about when, where and how we’ll manage a holiday.
I was having a look online for a swimsuit and bikini to update my summer wardrobe. Ideally I would love a Norma Kamali swimsuit – so 50s, and eternally chic. I’ve really started to like swimsuits a lot more in recent years and one of my favourite purchases last year was a black hooded backless American Apparel swimsuit (which became known as “The Gaga” on my last holiday).
Then the search for a bikini started and so the rant begins…
Why oh why do so many high street stores and swimwear designers insist on selling bikinis as a set? A lot of women are not the same size on the top as on the bottom and so buying a set is impossible. I know that I am two very different sizes and no matter how much I would like to squeeze and pin myself into a same-size set, it just ain’t going to happen.
Surely designers and shops would sell just as many bikinis if the top and bottom were sold separately? TopShop often have the nicest bikinis on the high street and I’d love to be able to buy them. Unfortunately the only pieces they sell separately are the super boring basic black ones which I’m not so crazy about. I emailed TopShop to suggest they start selling pieces separately but I never got a response.
So my lust have bikini is an Elizabeth Hurley Beach striped Paris bikini – slightly overpriced BUT available as separates, so she gets my vote.
Do any readers feel the same way about this? Or have any other fashion pet peeves or rants they’d like to share?
