A book is for life, not just for Christmas

The season of good cheer is upon us and as usual I’m very excited. I adore Christmas and present shopping is one of my favourite parts. I usually buy books for my friends as I believe strongly in supporting other writers and I think there’s a good book out there for everyone, even if they’re not usually a big reader.

A lot of blogs are publishing gift guides at the moment but I’ll only be doing this book related one as I reckon that’s the only area I’m an expert in! (Click here for my previous Christmas gift guide for books!) So without further ado…

For the boozehound in your life…

You can’t go wrong with The Savoy Cocktail Book. First published in 1930 this classic book comprises well known cocktails and those invented by the famous American barman at the Savoy Hotel, Harry Craddock.

For the mini-fashionista in your life…

Camilla Morton’s Fashion Fairytales are reimaginings of classic tales illustrated by fashion icons. There’s Christian Lacroix’s The Tale of Sleeping Beauty, Manolo Blahnik’s The Elves and The Shoe Maker, and Diane Von Furstenburg’s The Tale of The Empress’s New Clothes. These beautiful hardcover books will be treasured for years to come.

For the literature lover in your life…

I’m marginally obsessed with Penguin’s Clothbound Classics series. These stunning hardbacks are über-collectible and very eye catching on a bookshelf. Choose from titles such as Les Miserables (perfect for anyone who loved the recent movie), Moby Dick, The Count of Monte Cristo, or if you want to splash out, how about the Major Works of Charles Dickens boxset?

For the film buff in your life…

Anthony Lane’s Nobody’s Perfect is a collection of reviews, profiles and essays by this famous New Yorker critic. Worth buying for the side splittingly funny review of Showgirls alone!

For the new homeowner in your life…

(No, I’m not dropping hints! These are books I already own!) Apartment Therapy’s Big Book of Small Cool Spaces is chock full of ideas and inspiration. Interior designer Abigail Ahern’s book A Girl’s Guide to Decorating is also brilliant for anyone looking for style on a budget.

Happy shopping everyone!
