Karaoke Sauron is the nickname that Marina Hyde in The Guardian gave Simon Cowell a few years ago. I personally think it is one of the best nicknames I’ve ever heard. I was reading Hyde’s Lost In Showbiz column yesterday (always hysterically funny) and saw Cowell referred to thusly. It got me thinking about other nicknames in music and of course wouldn’t you know there’s a wikipedia entry about it.
I’m sure you know who The Boss is, and who The Hardest Working Man in Showbusiness was, but what about The Pope of Mope or The Four Heavenly Kings of Chinese Pop? Go check out the list. I reckon you could get an entire game of Charades out of it!
