Black Swan

I have been waiting for this movie to come out for months and am so excited that the trailer is finally available to view. Black Swan is Darren Aronofsky’s sixth film which is premiering at the Venice International Film Festival next month and is set for release in December 2010.

It stars Natalie Portman as Nina, an up and coming ballerina in a New York City ballet company who is cast as the lead in Swan Lake and who is in direct competition with Lily, another talented dancer in the company, played by Mila Kunis. Nina lives with her overbearing mother who is a former ballerina played by Barbara Hershey. Rounding out the cast are Vincent Cassel as the company director and Winona Ryder as a prima ballerina.

The film is a psychological thriller and from the looks of the trailer it either has hints of the supernatural or it chronicles the descent of a dancer into stress induced madness. One way or another it looks amazing and I cannot wait to see it.

  1. Depressing downward spiral into obsessional madness? An interesting new direction for Aronofsky.
That said it does look very interesting. Great cast. And Portman/Kunis action will be sure to get it some lowbrow attention too.

  2. Black Swan looks creepy, and actually a little scary (I mean just look at that poster), but putting Kunis in a main role is going to be bad since she still hasn’t convinced me she can live down her That 70′s Show days.

  3. I think Black Swan will definitely have a disturbing edge to it but I still can’t wait to see it. And yes I hate That 70s Show too, but in Kunis’s defence what about Family Guy?!
